In the industrial park of Freiburg, St.-Georg within a forest, a new production hall has been developed for electronical and medical systems with office spaces and laboratories. The building connects the two fields of production and administration. The core of the building is created by the double-height production hall.
The facility is conceived of as having a carpet of office and laboratory spaces placed over the production hall in a two storey configuration. These two levels are bound together by spacious light chimneys which penetrate the upper floor to its full height, and small windows in the roof terrace provide a well balanced light level in the base production hall.
To the north, the production hall is defined by a storage and mechanical zone and to the south by two storeys of office facility and conference rooms. The offices, laboratories, and the cafeteria above the production hall are arranged around the inlayed roof terraces which serve as open space for the employees and provide a view from each working place. A direct connection between production and administration exist by six lateral staircases.
